The completely renewed app of De Morgen is available from today. From now on you can also read the Edition on your smartphone.

With the new digital Edition, subscribers of De Morgen have the choice to read their newspaper as they wish. The new app offers subscribers on a smartphone everything that is also possible in the newspaper, but with an extra digital touch and completely ad-free! The app gives a breath of fresh air to De Morgen’s portfolio and is a fine example of innovation in the IT field.

What can you expect from the new Edition: the articles get a special digital layout and are enriched with animation, video, extra images, audio … and a selection of articles, curated by the editors of De Morgen, is in your digital letterbox every day at 5 o’clock. With these new features, De Morgen clarifies the chaos of daily news more than ever.

A streamlined digital offer

The digital Edition of De Morgen already existed for tablet users, but smartphone readers could only consult a live feed, until now.

Tom Seghers, Digital Product Manager De Morgen: “Such live feed focuses on current events, which means that you sometimes miss important articles. The digital Edition offers a complete overview, arranged by the editors and divided into sections. You read the front page news, interviews, political developments, science, technology, and the best columns and opinions. ” You decide which notifications you want to receive. That way you will never miss an important piece of news again.

Great piece of IT

The app has also been renewed at “the back”, explains Barend Poot, Product Owner of the De Morgen app: “We are bringing the same edition that was already available on tablets, also to mobile devices. The starting point was to keep it as user-friendly as possible for the editors, while still making a great product for the customer. And that worked out well! A new editor was introduced, making it much easier to create articles and teasers and we automated certain actions. The development of the platform in the look & feel of De Morgen, with all digital possibilities, was also a strong piece of IT work. ”

Limitless collaboration

The colleagues in the Netherlands already preceded De Morgen. “De Volkskrant has been using the app in this form for some time,” says Tom. “We were able to learn a lot from the work that the Dutch colleagues had already done.” Barend confirms: “The apps and websites for De Volkskrant, Parool, Trouw, De Morgen and Humo are made by the same team. Cooperation between the Belgian and Dutch editorial teams and IT Squads has therefore been a fact for some time. They develop very nice projects, across national borders. ”

Digital growth

With the new app, De Morgen strives for strong growth in the number of subscribers. The goal is to go from 45.000 to 70.000 app users and to invite non-logged-in users to log in as much as possible and convince them to choose a subscription. For example, De Morgen is focusing on digital acceleration, also among existing subscribers.
